| Remix Dance’s performance work is often and
consistently done as part of Remix’s education and outreach programs in
schools, universities and other organizations, but it also stands alone:
Performances in 2006:
Little theatre two week run of two pieces: Second Time Broken, choreographed
by Adam Benjamin (pioneer dance choreographed from U.K.) and I Cant Give You
Anything but Love, choreographed by Ina Wichterich.
Dance Umbrella 2006:
Performed two shows of Second time Broken in Johannesburg at the Dance
Factory.
Very well received – The Star newspaper describes it as the most beautifully
crafted piece of this year’s impressive season. Remix has been commissioned
for the 2007 Dance Umbrella.
N. Visser and M. Black perform in an improvisation performance in the
Alahmbra Theatre in Geneva, Switzerland. This was a collaboration with four
other dancers from Switzerland, France and the U.K. and the sound and
lighting technicians from Alahmbra. This was a part of the bi-annual Danse-Habile
dance festival; a Swiss integrated dance festival consisting of
performances, dance workshops and seminars and brings together dance
companies within integrated dance from various countries.
Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2006: Remix performed the To pieces
program - Second Time Broken and I Cant Give You Anything but Love – over a
period of four days. Reaction was positive audience feedback was very good.
A powerful solo danced by Andile Vellem in Johannesburg was called a new
South African dance classic by the Star newspaper. This solo was
choreographed by Mpho Masilela as part of the New Moves Festival,
an initiative by The Dance Umbrella organization to develop young dance
choreographers. The festival was in August.
Three male Remix dancers dance Ina Wichterich's 'Iyo!' at the Baxter Dance
Festival in October.
A very well received site specific Bluebeard was performed
at the old zoo on table mountain next to UCT. This was done using
the only existing part of the zoo, the lion cages. There were 10 cast
members with Jaqueline Dommisse and Tossie van Tonder as directors.
