About Youngblood

Youngblood Culture Development was founded in January 2010, in response to the need for financial support of cultural activities in South Africa. With a focus on projects involving the youth and music as well as other art forms, Youngblood had its origins in the corporate social investment (CSI) programmes of Universal Africa Lines (UAL), the world’s leading shipping company to West Africa. However, the seeds of Youngblood’s first project, funding of the Remix Dance Company, were sown a year before when UAL and Youngblood owner Roger Jungblut experienced the extraordinary spirit of Remix’s differently-abled dancers at a collaborative production in Cape Town. Thanks to Youngblood’s support, Remix was appointed the Baxter Theatre’s company-in-residence in March 2010. Future Youngblood initiatives will include African cultural exchange programmes and funding rehearsal space at theatre venues.
